Dog Training Advice - How To Train

You picked up your new puppy and brought him home, the family is in awe about how cute he is. As cute as your puppy is it is time to train him while he's little. If this is your first time training a dog, there are some important things you should go through about training.

Believe it or not, a lot of people slack on training their puppy right from the start and it ends up coming back to bite them. Training your puppy while it is young it the most important phase of training out of any.

Common Training Mistakes To Avoid:

  • Dogs have feelings and you don't need to be violent with them, they will resent you if you are.
  • Feeding your dog human food, just don't do it, not once, they will beg if you do.
  • Calling your dog, then when he comes to you punishing him or doing something he doesn't like.
  • Sticking your dog's nose in his mess to correct his housebreaking mistakes.
  • Punishing your dog after the fact of making a mess.
  • Ignoring bad behavior such as jumping, aggression and chewing, thinking your dong will grow out of it.

Being violent with your dog will only make him aggressive, there is no need for this. After years of training research there is no need for anything more than verbal communication between you and your dog.

If you start feeding your dog human food or at dinner time, you are doing nothing but training your dog that it is ok to beg for human food. Once this bad habit has started, consider it nearly impossible to un-train this out of your dog.

Calling your dog over to you should be a positive experience; they will not want to come over to you if they know that they are going to be punished.

The key to making your puppy continue good habits and behavior is to use positive re-enforcement. Being kind to your puppy and telling him how good of a boy he is when he does something right makes him feel good. Puppies want to please you, so let them know when they do.

Using a doggy treat when they listen to a command will make them want do it again, they love treats! Studies have showed that using treats during training as a positive re-enforcement makes them learn faster.
